Corrections, Retractions and Withdrawals

The Journal of Medical Sciences (JOMS) is committed to keeping the scholarly record accurate and complete. Published articles are not altered or removed silently. Any change after publication is made through a formal, linked notice, following the COPE Retraction Guidelines.

1. Types of post-publication notices

Notice When it is used
Correction (erratum or corrigendum) An honest error that affects part of the article but does not change its conclusions, for example an error in a table, a figure, an author name or an affiliation.
Expression of concern Serious concerns about the reliability of an article have been raised and an investigation is ongoing or inconclusive.
Retraction The findings are unreliable because of major error or misconduct, or the article involves plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated or falsified data, unethical research, or undisclosed conflicts of interest that invalidate the work.

2. How notices are published

  • Each notice is published in the journal, receives its own DOI, and is linked to the original article in both directions.
  • A corrected article is updated, and the article page states the date and nature of the correction.
  • A retracted article remains online. Its PDF is marked "RETRACTED" on every page, and the retraction notice states the reason and who requested the retraction.
  • An article is removed only in exceptional cases, such as a legal requirement or a serious risk to health. The title, authors and a notice explaining the removal remain online.

3. Withdrawal of a manuscript before publication

  • Authors may withdraw a manuscript at any time before peer review begins by contacting the Editorial Office.
  • After peer review has started, or after acceptance, withdrawal is possible only for a serious reason, such as a major error. The request must be made in writing by the corresponding author, signed by all authors and give the reason.
  • Withdrawing a manuscript in order to submit it to another journal while it is under review at JOMS is not acceptable.

4. Requesting a correction or reporting a concern

Authors who find an error in their published article should contact the Editorial Office as soon as possible through the Contact page. Readers who have concerns about a published article may also contact the Editorial Office. Concerns are handled confidentially and investigated following the COPE flowcharts.
