The state 'country' in
the contemporary world has been totally ineffective in providing
viable and progressive strategies and solutions to the economic, or
military, or political needs and problems that are affecting the
African countries individually and collectively. This is due to the
changing dynamics of communication and traveling. As a result, it
has failed to impose itself as a successful political concept and
needs to be expanded to include all the countries in the continent.
The continuing geographical profile of the continent; the close
relation of the languages, culture, and history of the African
countries in their variety index the need for integration. So also
the rich but scattered diversity of the material resources across
the African space offer a solid base to go beyond the state
'country'. The establishment of the African Union provides a strong
impetus to accelerate the pace of the political and economic
integration of the continent and finally accomplish the ultimate
goal of establishing the United States of Africa for their strategic
importance and safety.
On this occasion, to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of the
establishment of the African Union and the Silver Jubilee of the
Department of Languages and African Studies, Faculty of Arts, the
University of Sebha, Sebha
